The history of the company goes back into 1873, when a group of Dundee businessmen, who had made their fortunes in jute production, formed a venture to lend money to immigrant farmers in Oregon in 1873. This was the first of several Dundee land and mortgage companies.

The Company has three divisions: Alliance Trust Savings, AT Asset Management and Alliance Trust Equity Partners.

In 2006, Alliance Trust launched a new Asia-Pacific Asset Management subsidiary in Hong Kong. This offers investors the potential for participation in the growth prospects of the Asia-Pacific region.

Its other financial services subsidiary company, Alliance Trust Savings Limited, offers a range of competitive investment dealing products including share dealing Investment Plans, ISAs, PEPs and SIPPs.

The Company is listed on London Stock Exchange (code: ATST).
