- Accenture's CIO Pulse survey finds broad enterprise AI deployment but limited conversion into measurable business value.
- Governance, workforce training and data readiness remain major barriers to scaling AI.
- Only a minority of surveyed organizations include agentic architecture in planned enterprise redesigns.
Accenture published its CIO Pulse November 2026 report on Tuesday, November 3, drawing on responses from 300 CIOs and senior technology leaders across 19 industries and 16 countries. The detailed findings add to the debate over whether broad AI deployment can translate into measurable client returns.
The survey found that 64% of respondents are scaling enterprise AI deployment, while only 7% say their organizations are optimizing AI at scale. Individual productivity and copilots remain the main use case for 70% of respondents, compared with 37% using AI for end-to-end orchestration through agents.
Execution gaps shape AI demand
Accenture's report identifies user adoption and workforce training as the leading execution barrier, cited by 53% of respondents. Governance and responsible-AI concerns rank as the top barrier to scaling AI for 54%, while only 32% report advanced or leading AI-governance maturity.
Architecture presents a second constraint. Although 61% of CIOs expect significant transformation or a fundamental redesign of enterprise architecture within three years, only 27% currently include agentic architecture in that redesign. The finding points to potential demand for consulting, integration, data and cybersecurity work, while also raising the standard for proving business outcomes.
