Adobe stock: Citi cuts rating as fiscal 2027 risks rise

- Citi sees leadership vacancies, AI competition and a Creative strategy shift weighing on Adobe's fiscal 2027 growth.
- The bank expects annual recurring revenue growth to remain below Wall Street expectations through fiscal 2028.
- Adobe's December results will provide the next major test for its AI monetization and subscription strategy.
Adobe stock traded at 221.58 euros on Lang & Schwarz at 13:44 CET on Thursday, November 5, 2026, 1.41 percent below the Xetra close of Wednesday, November 4. The move followed a fresh warning from Citi that Adobe's leadership transition, changing Creative strategy and rising AI competition could weigh on growth into fiscal 2027.
In a report cited by CNBC on Wednesday, November 4, Citi cut its Adobe rating to Sell from Neutral and reduced its price target to 207 US dollars from 250 US dollars. Analyst Tyler Radke said consensus growth expectations for fiscal 2027 face downside risk as incoming CEO Anil Chakravarthy takes over in December while key leadership positions remain open.
Citi flags a tougher transition
Citi expects Adobe to make strategic changes to its Creative business that could support longer-term positioning but come at the expense of near-term growth. The bank also pointed to competition from artificial-intelligence software, macroeconomic uncertainty and weaker demand from small businesses.
A central concern is Adobe's growing focus on monthly active user expansion. Citi expects annual recurring revenue to grow at roughly 5 percent year over year through fiscal 2028, between 200 and 300 basis points below the broader analyst consensus. The bank said a shift toward AI products such as Firefly and lower-priced entry offerings could expand the user funnel while reducing the near-term contribution from price increases.
Citi also lowered its net new annual recurring revenue estimates for fiscal 2027 and 2028 by 470 million US dollars and 500 million US dollars, respectively. The analyst expects the pressure to be most visible in the core Creative business, where web-based and AI-native alternatives are intensifying the competitive challenge.
December results set the next test
Adobe's fiscal fourth-quarter report, scheduled for December 9 after the market close, will give investors the next hard checkpoint. The release should show whether AI-driven user growth is converting into higher-value subscriptions, whether Creative pricing remains effective and how management frames fiscal 2027 recurring-revenue growth.
