Adobe stock faces a December test after Citi warned of weaker fiscal 2027 growth. The company is still expanding revenue and recurring sales.

Adobe faces a December growth test

  • Citi expects weaker annual recurring revenue growth as Adobe changes its Creative monetization strategy.
  • Adobe's third-quarter revenue, recurring revenue and adjusted earnings continued to rise.
  • Leadership changes and artificial intelligence competition remain the main risks ahead of the fiscal 2026 results.

Adobe is heading into its next earnings report with a stronger operating base but a more demanding growth debate. In an analysis published by Yahoo Finance on Thursday, November 5, the focus was on Citi's November 4 downgrade, Adobe's valuation and the company's ability to sustain growth as artificial intelligence tools challenge established software products.

Citi cut Adobe to Sell from Hold and lowered its price target to 207 US dollars from 250 US dollars. Analyst Tyler Radke expects a weaker fiscal 2027 outlook when Adobe reports its fiscal fourth-quarter results. The bank reduced its estimate for net new annual recurring revenue to 1.5 billion US dollars in fiscal 2027 and 1.45 billion US dollars in fiscal 2028, cuts of 470 million and 500 million US dollars, respectively.

Leadership and pricing create pressure

The upcoming forecast will be delivered during a management transition. Anil Chakravarthy is scheduled to become chief executive officer on December 1, while Shantanu Narayen is set to become executive chair. David Wadhwani is leaving his role overseeing Adobe's creativity and productivity business, and Steve Day is serving as interim chief financial officer.

Citi also sees pressure from Adobe's shift toward user acquisition and lower-priced offerings rather than relying primarily on price increases. The bank expects artificial intelligence-native and web-based competitors, weaker small-business demand and unmonetized AI inference costs to weigh on growth and margins. For investors, the key issue is whether a broader user funnel can eventually offset slower monetization per customer.

Operating results remain resilient

Adobe's fiscal third quarter ended August 28 with record revenue of 6.76 billion US dollars, up 13 percent from the prior-year quarter. Total annualized recurring revenue increased 11.2 percent to 27.50 billion US dollars, while non-GAAP earnings per share rose 15 percent to 6.13 US dollars. Management raised its full-year non-GAAP earnings-per-share target to a range of 24.45 to 24.50 US dollars.

The analysis also highlighted Adobe's cash generation and share repurchases as support for earnings per share. The company repurchased about 9.5 million shares in the third quarter, and its share count fell from 413 million to 391 million during the first nine months of fiscal 2026. Those buybacks can cushion slower operating growth, but they do not remove the risk that lower subscription growth or weaker pricing could reduce future estimates.

Valuation meets a strategic reset

The Yahoo Finance analysis said Adobe traded at 9.4 times forward earnings, below its five-year average of 23 times. That valuation may appeal to investors who believe the company can convert its expanding AI and freemium user base into paid subscriptions. It also leaves the shares exposed if the December outlook confirms Citi's concern that growth estimates remain too high.

The real-time quote of Adobe stock was 215.08 euros on Lang & Schwarz at 13:48 CET on Friday, November 6, 2026, 2.46 percent below the Xetra close of Thursday, November 5. The December report will provide the next direct test of management's growth assumptions and the new leadership team's strategy.

The broader S&P 500 market remains the relevant benchmark for Adobe's US-listed shares.
