AFLAC Inc. reported mixed third-quarter results on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, with reported profit hit by investment losses while underlying insurance earnings remained more resilient. The company also declared a fourth-quarter dividend of 0.61 US dollars per share, extending its dividend increase streak to 44 consecutive years.

According to Fox 44, net earnings for the quarter were 303 million US dollars, or 0.61 US dollars per diluted share, compared with 1.6 billion US dollars, or 3.08 US dollars, a year earlier. Total revenue declined 31 percent to 3.3 billion US dollars.

Investment losses obscure insurance performance

The reported decline was largely tied to 1.1 billion US dollars of net investment losses, including losses from portfolio sales and redemptions, derivatives and foreign currency activities. Adjusted earnings, which exclude items management considers outside normal insurance operations, fell 8.5 percent to 1.2 billion US dollars. Adjusted earnings per diluted share declined 2.4 percent to 2.43 US dollars.

Aflac U.S. provided the stronger operating signal. Net earned premiums increased 3.3 percent to 1.5 billion US dollars, while pretax adjusted earnings rose 31.5 percent to 493 million US dollars. Its pretax adjusted profit margin widened to 27.7 percent from 21.7 percent in the comparable quarter.

Aflac Japan remained weaker. Net earned premiums fell 2.0 percent in yen terms to 240.3 billion yen, and pretax adjusted earnings declined 15.2 percent to 152.3 billion yen. The Japan segment's pretax adjusted margin narrowed to 44.4 percent from 52.2 percent.

Dividend and capital returns remain central

Aflac returned 1.1 billion US dollars to shareholders during the quarter through 804 million US dollars of share repurchases and 305 million US dollars of dividends. The declared dividend is payable on December 1, 2026, to shareholders of record at the close of business on November 18.
