- Agnico Eagle generated 852 million US dollars in third-quarter free cash flow despite lower gold production and higher costs.
- Management expects 2026 gold output near the bottom of its guidance range and costs near the top.
- The company returned 478 million US dollars to shareholders and expects to return more than half of annual free cash flow in 2026.
Agnico Eagle Mines reported strong third-quarter results on October 28, 2026, as higher gold prices supported earnings and cash generation despite lower production. In its third-quarter release, the Canadian gold producer said it remained on track for its full-year targets.
Strong Cash Flow, Higher Costs
Payable gold production reached 814,012 ounces in the quarter, down from 866,936 ounces a year earlier. Lower output at Canadian Malartic and Meadowbank outweighed higher production at Detour Lake and Fosterville. Total cash costs rose to 1,133 US dollars per ounce from 952 US dollars, while all-in sustaining costs increased to 1,648 US dollars from 1,331 US dollars.
Higher realized gold prices helped offset the production decline. The average realized price reached 4,264 US dollars per ounce, compared with 3,476 US dollars in the prior-year quarter. Net income rose to 1.353 billion US dollars from 1.055 billion US dollars, while adjusted net income reached 1.324 billion US dollars, or 2.62 US dollars per share.
Operating cash flow was 1.755 billion US dollars. Free cash flow came in at 852 million US dollars, below the 1.190 billion US dollars recorded a year earlier. The company attributed the decline to unfavorable working-capital movements and higher development spending at projects including Hope Bay, Odyssey and Detour Lake.
Guidance Holds, Cost Pressure Rises
Agnico Eagle retained its 2026 production range of 3.3 million to 3.5 million ounces but expects output near the lower end. The outlook reflects an adjusted mine plan for the Barnat open pit at Canadian Malartic after a rock mass movement reported on July 2.
Management expects full-year total cash costs of 1,020 to 1,120 US dollars per ounce and all-in sustaining costs of 1,400 to 1,550 US dollars per ounce, both near the upper ends of the ranges. Diesel and other consumables remain the main cost pressures. Capital expenditures excluding capitalized exploration are expected at 2.6 billion to 2.8 billion US dollars, with exploration spending of 290 million to 330 million US dollars.
The balance sheet remains a central support for the growth plan. Cash rose by 149 million US dollars to 3.613 billion US dollars at September 30, while net cash reached 3.416 billion US dollars against total debt of 197 million US dollars. The company also expanded its unsecured revolving credit facility to 3 billion US dollars, with maturity extended to October 28, 2031.
Shareholder Returns And Growth Projects
Agnico Eagle returned 478 million US dollars to shareholders during the quarter through dividends and share repurchases. The board declared a quarterly dividend of 0.45 US dollars per share, payable on December 15, 2026, to shareholders of record on December 1. At current gold prices and subject to operating needs, management expects to return more than 50 percent of 2026 free cash flow through dividends and buybacks.
The company is advancing a long-term production expansion across its project pipeline. Odyssey shaft construction at Canadian Malartic is aimed at supporting shaft-hoisted production from East Gouldie in the second quarter of 2027. Hope Bay construction remains on schedule for first gold in 2030, while Detour Lake underground development and Upper Beaver infrastructure are also progressing.
