AIA Group reported a weaker third quarter but a stronger regional picture for the first nine months of 2026. The insurer's official announcement of October 30 said value of new business rose across all reportable segments except Thailand, while September growth accelerated sharply.

Its value of new business fell 5 percent year on year to US$1.415 billion in the three months ended September 30, measured at constant exchange rates. Hong Kong declined 3 percent and mainland China fell 33 percent, reflecting unusually strong prior-year sales and customer purchases ahead of repricing in China.

September improves the quarterly picture

The September rebound provides the clearest forward signal in the release. Group value of new business increased by more than 25 percent from a year earlier, while Hong Kong recorded 20 percent growth across August and September combined. Agency business in mainland China also returned to strong growth in September.

For the first nine months, value of new business rose 5 percent to US$4.627 billion. Other reportable segments outside Hong Kong and mainland China grew 18 percent in the quarter, including growth in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and other Asian markets. The new-business margin increased by 5.3 percentage points to 63.5 percent, supported by product and channel mix in mainland China.

AIA's official announcement also showed annualised new premiums down 13 percent to US$2.237 billion, while total weighted premium income increased 7 percent to US$12.892 billion. These figures point to a mixed quarter in volume terms but a more favorable product mix.

Execution becomes the next test

Management expects strong fourth-quarter momentum as the high comparison effects normalise. AIA also reiterated its expectation of exceeding the 9 to 11 percent compound annual growth target for operating profit after tax per share from 2023 through 2026.

The real-time quote of AIA Group stock was 8.93 euros on Lang & Schwarz at 15:34:45 CET on Friday, November 6, 2026.
