Airbnb announced on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, that it will direct USD 0.10 from the revenue of every stay to Airbnb.org, its independent nonprofit for crisis housing. The Airbnb Newsroom said the model is designed to provide USD 500 million to the nonprofit over five years and support 1 million nights of free housing each year.

The contribution will come from Airbnb's revenue and will not increase what guests pay or reduce host payouts, according to the company. Guests and hosts do not need to opt in. The contribution does not apply to stays canceled before check-in or to bookings for experiences and services.

Funding model expands relief

Airbnb.org has provided more than 1.6 million nights of free housing to more than 250,000 people since its creation. The nonprofit works with local organizations and government partners to help people affected by disasters and other crises secure temporary stays, while hosts receive payment for the accommodation.

The new plan broadens the nonprofit's scope beyond disaster response. Airbnb said the program will support families traveling for medical care, survivors of domestic violence and exploitation, and US veterans facing serious illness or intensive treatment. By the end of 2026, medical-care support is planned in more than 20 countries.

Airbnb said Airbnb.org has provided temporary housing in response to more than 200 disasters this year, compared with eight in 2023. The company covers the nonprofit's operating costs, allowing public donations to fund housing directly, and said it makes no money from Airbnb.org stays.
