- Allstate expanded Property-Liability policies while third-quarter catastrophe losses sharply increased.
- Adjusted earnings remained strong, but GAAP profit and underwriting income declined from the prior-year quarter.
- Protection Services continued to grow, adding diversification beyond the core insurance business.
Allstate's third-quarter results sharpened the balance between growth and claims risk. In results released on November 4, 2026, the insurer reported that Property-Liability policies in force rose 3.3 percent year over year, while catastrophe losses reached 1.65 billion US dollars.
According to Morningstar's report carrying the PRNewswire release, total revenue increased 0.5 percent to 17.348 billion US dollars. Net income attributable to common shareholders fell 44.8 percent to 2.05 billion US dollars, while adjusted net income declined 16.2 percent to 2.493 billion US dollars, or 9.76 US dollars per diluted share.
Policy growth faces claims pressure
Property-Liability earned premiums rose 3.8 percent to 15.086 billion US dollars, but underwriting income dropped 30.1 percent to 2.022 billion US dollars. The recorded combined ratio worsened to 86.6 from 80.1 a year earlier, primarily because catastrophe losses increased from 558 million to 1.65 billion US dollars.
Auto policies grew 3.4 percent and homeowners policies 3.3 percent. Homeowners earned premiums rose 11.5 percent, but its combined ratio deteriorated to 89.5 from 71.5 as catastrophe losses reached 1.33 billion US dollars. The underlying homeowners combined ratio was 60.1, indicating that reported claims volatility was a major drag on the quarter.
Protection Services adds diversification
Protection Services revenue increased 6.9 percent to 964 million US dollars, supported by Protection Plans and Roadside. The segment's adjusted net income rose to 64 million US dollars from 46 million US dollars, giving Allstate a second growth channel as insurance underwriting absorbs higher catastrophe costs.
