- AstraZeneca reaffirmed its 2026 revenue and Core EPS outlook after strong oncology and rare-disease growth.
- The company launched a restructuring programme designed to generate $1.5 billion in annual pre-tax savings for pipeline investment.
AstraZeneca reported stronger-than-expected operating momentum in the third quarter ended 30 September 2026, with growth in oncology, respiratory and immunology and rare diseases offsetting pressure from loss of exclusivity and procurement effects. The company published the results on Friday, 30 October, alongside a restructuring programme intended to redirect savings toward its drug pipeline. Its official results statement said the business had delivered 12 positive Phase III programme readouts during the year to date.
Revenue growth broadens beyond oncology
Total revenue reached 16.209 billion US dollars in the quarter, up 7% at constant exchange rates from the year-earlier period. Product revenue increased by the same rate to 16.173 billion US dollars. For the first nine months, total revenue rose 7% at constant exchange rates to 46.881 billion US dollars.
Core EPS increased 19% at constant exchange rates to 2.79 US dollars in the quarter, while reported EPS rose 26% to 2.02 US dollars. Over nine months, Core EPS advanced 14% to 8.00 US dollars. The company defines Core measures as excluding items such as intangible-asset amortisation, impairments, legal settlements and restructuring charges.
Oncology remained the main growth engine, while rare-disease medicines also contributed. The expansion came despite headwinds from Farxiga and Brilinta loss of exclusivity and volume-based procurement in China. The mix leaves investors weighing durable demand for newer medicines against the erosion of established products.
Savings plan targets pipeline investment
AstraZeneca announced a restructuring programme expected to produce 1.5 billion US dollars in annual pre-tax savings. Reuters reported that the plan could require up to 2 billion US dollars in one-time restructuring charges and is expected to be largely completed by the end of 2029. The company did not specify whether the programme would include job reductions.
The savings are intended to support investment in cancer, obesity and rare-disease programmes as Chief Executive Pascal Soriot pursues the companys ambition of reaching 80 billion US dollars in annual revenue by 2030. That target now depends on commercial execution in established franchises as well as clinical and regulatory progress across the pipeline.
Guidance stays unchanged
AstraZeneca reaffirmed its 2026 outlook at constant exchange rates. Management continues to expect total revenue to increase by a mid-to-high single-digit percentage and Core EPS to grow by a low double-digit percentage. The company also maintained its expected Core tax rate of 18% to 22%.
