- Bank of America lowered Besi to neutral over potential ASML competition in hybrid bonding.
- Besi's hybrid-bonding opportunity remains central to its long-term investment case.
- Execution, production yields and the timing of customer adoption remain key investor questions.
Bank of America has cut BE Semiconductor Industries to neutral and nearly halved its price target, warning that potential competition from ASML could weigh on the Dutch chip-equipment maker's hybrid-bonding growth case. The assessment was reported by The Next Web on October 6, 2026.
Competition risk enters valuation debate
Analysts led by Didier Scemama said the threat was not reflected in the share price and could remain an overhang until ASML's plans become clearer. ASML has publicly indicated that it is examining hybrid-bonding technology, while Besi supplies equipment that joins chip surfaces directly without metal bumps.
The technology is important to Besi's long-term growth ambitions because it can improve heat management and support denser chip architectures. Besi told investors in August that it could ship more than 2,000 hybrid bonders by 2030 in an optimistic scenario. Its 2025 annual report put cumulative orders above 150, while Bernstein expects Besi to account for three of every four hybrid bonders shipped in 2028.
Execution remains the key test
The competitive concern comes alongside a broader debate about production yields and customer adoption. Bank of America said manufacturers still face difficulty producing working chips consistently at the precision needed for logic and memory stacking. The analysts did not assume that ASML would take a significant market share, but the prospect of another major equipment supplier has changed the risk discussion around Besi's valuation.
Besi stock traded at 156.70 euros on Lang & Schwarz at 10:16 Berlin time on Wednesday, November 4, 2026. The real-time quote of Besi stock is available separately.
