- Blackstone closed its fourth European Senior Direct Lending Fund for mid-market and upper-mid-market borrowers.
- Institutional demand remains resilient despite concerns about redemptions, software exposure, loan quality and valuations.
- The fund is targeting lending opportunities across Europe while private credit markets remain under close scrutiny.
Blackstone has raised around EUR 13 billion for its European direct-lending strategy, according to a report by Moneycontrol, which cited Bloomberg and published the report on Wednesday, November 4, 2026. Blackstone has closed its fourth European Senior Direct Lending Fund, targeting mid-market and upper-mid-market borrowers.
The fundraising gives Blackstone further scale in private credit, a business that provides fee income and expands the firm's lending capacity. The fund's focus covers companies in the middle and upper-middle segments of the European market, where borrowers typically seek financing outside traditional bank channels.
Institutional demand meets credit-market caution
The fundraising comes as institutional investors continue to commit capital to large private-credit managers, even though the asset class has faced pressure in 2026. Moneycontrol reported concerns around redemption requests, software exposure, loan quality and private-asset valuations.
Brad Marshall, global head of private credit strategies at Blackstone Credit & Insurance, said the fundraising reflected investor confidence in private credit. He said investors were focusing on fundamentals rather than short-term market noise and viewed the lending backdrop as more attractive.
Blackstone's fund has already taken lead-lender roles in transactions involving Catalyst Pharmaceuticals, German regulatory-software company Regnology and residential-property manager Odevo, according to the report. Those examples show how the strategy is being deployed across healthcare, software and property-related lending.
What the development means for investors
For Blackstone, the fundraising supports the case for continued asset gathering and diversification beyond traditional buyout funds. It also keeps the company exposed to the central risks of private credit: borrower quality, valuation discipline and the ability of lenders to manage defaults or investor withdrawals.
