BNP Paribas Wealth Management is planning further expansion in Germany, Europe and Asia after its acquisition of HSBC Private Bank's German activities more than doubled its local platform. The strategic update came in an interview with CEO Vincent Lecomte published by WealthBriefing on Tuesday, November 3, 2026.
Germany remains a strategic market
Lecomte said the German business now manages 50 billion euros and ranks as the country's fourth-largest private bank. BNP Paribas Wealth Management operates in 10 German cities, including Frankfurt, Berlin and Munich, and intends to invest further.
Germany is a priority for small and medium-sized businesses, entrepreneurs and families. France and Italy remain important markets, while Belgium and the Netherlands support the wider European footprint. Northern Italy is also seen as an opportunity for additional growth.
Asia adds another growth channel
Lecomte described 2026 as a record year for the Asian business, citing stronger activity in Taiwan and a larger presence in Thailand. Asia now represents more than 20 percent of total assets under management at BNP Paribas Wealth Management.
For investors, the strategy broadens the bank's fee-generating activities beyond lending. The acquisition provides greater scale in Germany, while the Asian expansion increases exposure to entrepreneurs and families in markets where BNP Paribas is seeking closer client relationships. The key issue is whether additional assets translate into sustainable fee income and returns.
