- BNY now supports institutional custody for XRP and RLUSD through its Digital Asset Custody platform.
- The bank and Ripple are exploring tokenized trade finance with C2FO.
- Future RLUSD minting and redemption services depend on further development and client requirements.
BNY and Ripple expanded their institutional digital-asset collaboration on October 27, adding XRP and RLUSD to BNY's Digital Asset Custody platform. Morningstar, carrying a Business Wire release, reported that eligible institutional clients can safeguard, hold and transfer the two assets through BNY's platform.
Custody expansion reaches XRP
BNY already serves as Ripple's primary reserve custodian for RLUSD and has a custody relationship with Ripple Prime. The expanded arrangement adds XRP, the native asset of the XRP Ledger, to the bank's custody offering.
The announcement does not disclose client volumes, custody balances or revenue from XRP services. For investors, the immediate significance is the potential to add digital-asset custody, settlement and servicing activity to BNY's established capital-markets infrastructure.
Trade finance remains exploratory
BNY intends to broaden support for tokenized assets and investment products issued on the XRP Ledger. It is also working with Ripple on a service that would allow clients to mint and redeem RLUSD directly through BNY.
Ripple and BNY are exploring tokenized trade finance with C2FO. The initial concept would represent approved receivables digitally and seek to broaden investor access to supply-chain financing, subject to client requirements.
BNY's platform oversaw 63.4 trillion US dollars in assets under custody and administration and 2.2 trillion US dollars in assets under management as of September 30, according to the release. That scale provides the infrastructure backdrop for the partnership, while future earnings relevance depends on client adoption and execution.
