British American Tobacco plc announced on Wednesday, 28 October 2026, that Bruce Sewell will join its board as an independent non-executive director on 1 January 2027. The announcement was carried by Investegate from the company statement released through RNS.
Sewell previously served as Apple's senior vice president, general counsel and secretary from 2009 to 2018. Before joining Apple, he spent 14 years at Intel, where he was ultimately senior vice president and general counsel. Technology experience meets Horizon 2030
BAT Chair Luc Jobin said Sewell brings experience in the global technology sector, government and regulatory engagement across the United States, Europe and Asia, as well as listed-company board work that includes artificial intelligence. Jobin said that experience would support BAT as it pursues its Horizon 2030 ambitions and its goal of building a Smokeless World.
The company will also adjust the membership of two board committees. From 30 November 2026, Véronique Laury will leave the Audit Committee and join the Remuneration Committee. Serpil Timuray will move in the opposite direction, leaving the Remuneration Committee to join the Audit Committee.
