Cathay Financial Holdings is moving into an "Agent First" phase after its technology conference on September 15, according to a PR Newswire release published on October 14. The Taiwan financial group presented its next digital-transformation phase as it marked a decade of technology investment.

AI pilots target core workflows

The company introduced AI-agent-powered "digital colleagues" for the first time. Pilot applications include project management, technology governance and legal contract review, with defined roles and operating boundaries for each system.

Cathay said human oversight remains in place for major decisions, rule validation and exceptional cases. Identity and access controls, enterprise knowledge management, system integration, cybersecurity monitoring and audit trails are intended to support the group's responsible-AI approach.

Digital assets broaden the roadmap

The conference also addressed AI-driven IT modernization, digital assets and Web3. Topics included virtual-asset custody, stablecoins, AI-agent payments and autonomous finance, alongside the compliance and security requirements facing financial institutions.

Nearly 7,000 people registered for the event, while combined online and in-person concurrent viewership exceeded 3,500, the company said. Cathay Financial Holdings also said it would continue exploring opportunities in asset management and wealth management as it develops group-wide AI capabilities.
