Commerzbank stock posts record profit as deposit pressure grows

Commerzbank stock enters a new earnings phase after a record nine-month result. Deposit competition has clouded the bank's interest-income outlook.

Profit strength meets deposit pressure

  • Commerzbank posted its strongest nine-month result in company history after third-quarter profit and revenue gains.
  • The bank lowered its 2026 net interest income outlook because of stronger deposit competition.
  • Full-year net profit and revenue targets remain unchanged, keeping execution and deposit pricing in focus.

Commerzbank delivered record nine-month earnings on Thursday, November 5, but tougher competition for deposits forced a narrower view of its interest-income trajectory. The bank's EQS release said the nine-month result was the strongest in its history.

Record earnings, softer interest outlook

Third-quarter net profit after taxes and minorities rose 45% year on year to 859 million euros. Operating profit increased 25% to 1.312 billion euros, while revenue advanced 9% to 3.199 billion euros. For the first nine months, net profit reached 2.669 billion euros, up 41%, and operating profit rose 17% to 4.037 billion euros.

Net commission income increased 9% in the quarter to 1.072 billion euros, supported by securities activity in the Private and Small-Business Customers segment in Germany. Net interest income also grew 3.5% to 2.115 billion euros, while the cost-income ratio including compulsory contributions improved to 52%.

What has changed since our last report

Commerzbank stock traded at 38.13 euros on Lang & Schwarz at 18:04 Berlin time on Friday, November 6, 3.42% below the 39.48-euro quote in our premarket report published on Thursday, November 5. This comparison is separate from the daily Xetra comparison.

The forward issue is deposit pricing. Commerzbank cut its 2026 net interest income outlook to around 8.5 billion euros from around 8.6 billion euros, citing increased competition for deposits. Management kept its full-year net profit target of at least 3.4 billion euros and revenue outlook of around 13.2 billion euros. The bank also expects net commission income to grow by around 7% to approximately 4.3 billion euros.

For investors, the results show strong booked earnings alongside a more demanding funding environment. The key question is whether commission growth and other income can offset pressure on interest margins while the bank maintains its profit target.
