- The ECB reduced Commerzbank's 2027 Pillar 2 requirement to 2.10 percent.

- The lower regulatory hurdle supports flexibility but does not by itself prove stronger earnings growth.

Lower capital hurdle, limited earnings signal
The European Central Bank has reduced Commerzbank's additional Pillar 2 own-funds requirement for 2027 by 5 basis points to 2.10 percent of total capital. The decision follows the annual Supervisory Review and Evaluation Process and takes effect on January 1, 2027.
The details were contained in a Commerzbank release carried by finanzen.ch on October 27. At least 1.18 percentage points of the Pillar 2 requirement must be covered with Common Equity Tier 1 capital. The pro forma CET1 threshold for the Maximum Distributable Amount stands at 10.26 percent of risk-weighted assets based on June 2026 figures.
Chief Executive Bettina Orlopp said the second consecutive reduction reflects the strength and stability of the business model. The lower requirement can widen room for lending or capital returns, but it does not by itself establish stronger revenue or profit growth.
What changed since the last report
The latest own report cited a Commerzbank stock price of 37.48 euros on October 27. The move to 38.00 euros by 14:39 CEST on October 30 represents a 1.39 percent gain since that report, a separate comparison from the Xetra day move above.
The next operating checkpoint is the third-quarter report scheduled for November 5. That release should give investors a clearer basis for judging whether the bank's valuation is supported by business performance rather than regulatory relief alone.
