Contemporary Amperex Technology is entering another electric-aviation project. Battery-News reported on Wednesday, November 4, that CATL and Chinese aircraft developer Blue Vector signed strategic and product cooperation agreements on Monday, November 2, covering a custom battery for the Skyla V30 eVTOL.

Blue Vector has named CATL its exclusive battery partner for the aircraft. The cooperation includes battery research, standards and operational applications, with the stated aim of meeting the aircraft's range and safety requirements.

Aircraft development remains ahead

The Skyla V30 is an all-electric, six-seat tiltrotor in the two-ton class designed for passenger flights between cities. Blue Vector's first full-scale technology demonstrator rolled out in Harbin on August 31, 2026. Systems integration, ground testing and transition-flight tests are next.

Blue Vector reported pre-sales orders for more than 100 aircraft by late September. The certification status has not been disclosed, so the commercial timetable for the program remains dependent on further development and testing.

Strategic expansion beyond road vehicles

The agreement adds to CATL's aviation activities. In August 2024, the battery maker agreed to invest in Autoflight and develop eVTOL batteries with the Shanghai-based company. Autoflight presented a floating vertiport developed jointly with CATL in November 2025, combining takeoff and landing infrastructure with energy storage and charging.

For investors, the project broadens CATL's potential applications beyond electric cars and stationary storage. Its financial contribution will depend on whether the Skyla V30 reaches certification, production and commercial operation.

China's broader equity market remains the relevant regional backdrop for CATL, with the Shanghai Composite providing the principal mainland benchmark.
