Crédit Agricole reported stronger third-quarter results on Friday, October 30, as revenue growth and tighter cost control lifted profitability at the French banking group. The figures were published in the bank's official results release.

Profitability Improves In Q3

Net income Group share at Crédit Agricole S.A. rose 17.9 percent year on year to 1.991 billion euros in the third quarter. Revenue increased 7.5 percent to 7.092 billion euros, while operating expenses rose 2.4 percent to 3.928 billion euros. The resulting positive jaws of 5.1 percentage points helped lift gross operating income 14.6 percent to 3.164 billion euros.

The cost-to-income ratio improved to 55.4 percent from 58.2 percent a year earlier. Credit provisions, however, increased 19.6 percent to 585 million euros. The bank said the charge included 483 million euros for non-performing loans and 97 million euros for performing loans, compared with a reversal in that category a year earlier.

The reported earnings comparison included exceptional effects. A 205 million euro capital gain from the initial public offering of Indian joint venture SBI Funds Management supported the quarter, while the prior-year period benefited from a 79 million euro effect linked to the repurchase of Santander's minority interest. Adjusted for these effects, net income Group share increased 11.0 percent.

Investment Banking Supports Activity

Corporate and investment banking revenue rose 10.4 percent to 1.748 billion euros. Investment banking revenue increased 42.4 percent, while financing revenue gained 7.1 percent. Asset gathering also contributed to growth, with assets under management reaching 3.299 trillion euros, up 10.9 percent from a year earlier, and quarterly net inflows at Amundi reaching 46 billion euros.

French retail banking remained a growth driver, but operating conditions were mixed. Mortgage production in France slowed, while lending in Italy increased. The automotive market continued to weigh on specialised financial services, particularly through weaker used-car resale conditions and lower short-term rental activity.

Germany Becomes Strategic Priority

Management is using the results to advance the ACT 2028 plan. Crédit Agricole has launched CA Deutschland, expanded the CA Savings digital platform and proposed the acquisition of IKB Deutsche Industriebank, a lender focused on Germany's Mittelstand. The transaction is subject to regulatory approvals and is expected to close by the end of the second quarter of 2027, according to the company.

Chief Executive Officer Olivier Gavalda also highlighted the launch of Crédit Agricole Artificial Intelligence and partnerships with Mistral and Prisme.ai. The initiatives are intended to support digital transformation and strengthen the bank's European technology capabilities.

For the first nine months, reported net income Group share rose 1.0 percent to 5.718 billion euros, while revenue increased 5.3 percent. Return on tangible equity was 14.2 percent and the bank's CET1 ratio stood at 11.2 percent at the end of September.

The French banking sector remains exposed to the broader CAC 40 market backdrop.
