Dell Technologies stock weighs AI growth against PC downturn

Dell Technologies stock faces a sharper contrast between strong AI demand and a weakening PC market. The balance will shape the next investor debate.

AI growth meets PC market pressure

  • Dell expanded its cybersecurity and resilience portfolio for AI environments, identity systems and infrastructure.
  • PC shipments fell sharply, while AI server revenue and a large order backlog provided a counterweight.
  • Investors are watching whether AI execution can offset continued weakness in the traditional PC business.

Dell Technologies is entering the next reporting phase with two competing forces in focus: expanding demand for AI infrastructure and renewed pressure on the PC business. The company’s newsroom listed a cybersecurity and resilience expansion on October 27, while a report by Börse Express on October 30 highlighted weaker PC shipments and the offset from AI servers.

AI pipeline supports the growth case

Dell said in an October 21 newsroom announcement that more than 6,500 enterprises had adopted the Dell AI Factory with NVIDIA, up from 5,000 in the previous quarter. The company also outlined new AI solutions, services and infrastructure aimed at moving enterprise projects from experimentation into production. The announcement is available through Dell Technologies.

Börse Express reported that Dell generated 16.4 billion US dollars in AI-server revenue in the second quarter of fiscal 2027 and had an AI-server backlog of 95 billion US dollars. Those figures support the growth narrative, but orders still need to convert into reported revenue and operating profit.

PC weakness raises execution risk

The same report cited Gartner data showing Dell shipped 7.583 million PCs in the third quarter of 2026, down 25.4 percent from a year earlier. Dell’s market share was reported at 13.7 percent. The figures point to a material volume challenge in the core PC business rather than a purely forward-looking industry risk.

For the third quarter of fiscal 2027, Dell expected about 49 billion US dollars in total revenue, including 19 billion US dollars from AI servers. Those figures were forecasts rather than reported results. The next catalyst is therefore the conversion of the AI backlog alongside evidence that PC weakness is stabilizing.
