DoorDash management used Wednesday's third-quarter earnings call to give investors a more detailed view of the pending Instacart combination, focusing on grocery scale, technology integration and future profit growth. The discussion was covered in a Yahoo Finance transcript published on November 4, 2026.

CFO Ravi Inukonda said the transaction could generate at least USD 500 million in annual net synergies by the third year, after investments. He described several potential drivers, including listing merchants across both platforms, expanding advertising reach, cross-selling software and fulfillment services, and improving delivery density for Dashers and shoppers.

Instacart Deal Takes Center Stage

Inukonda said the first year would focus on investment and product development, with progress expected in the second year before the targeted synergy contribution in the third. The approach is intended to combine Instacart's software for grocers with DoorDash's logistics and marketplace capabilities.

CEO Tony Xu said DoorDash is pursuing the deal from a position of strength. He pointed to record top-line and bottom-line performance, faster growth in the U.S. restaurant business and continued expansion in newer categories and international markets. Xu also said the company had sufficient management capacity to take on another major project after work on Deliveroo and a broader technology overhaul.

Technology Sets The Next Milestone

Inukonda said the new technology platform remains on track for completion in the first half of 2027, with several modules already live and producing faster merchant onboarding and better customer support. Management expects the platform to make future acquisitions and product launches easier to integrate, although Instacart would still require additional investment.

Management also offered a cautious assessment of consumer-facing AI agents. Xu said third-party agents had generated several hundred orders in total so far, while routine food orders continued to come directly through the DoorDash app. The company is testing its own AI products and partnerships, but the current order volume leaves the opportunity at an early stage.
