Eckert & Ziegler has secured a manufacturing authorization for Actinium-225, an alpha-emitting radioisotope used in targeted radiopharmaceutical research. The company announced the approval on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, in an EQS News release published through Deutsche Börse.
Approval moves production toward routine supply
The authorization applies to Eckert & Ziegler Therapeutics GmbH, a wholly owned subsidiary. German authorities confirmed that the production process meets Good Manufacturing Practice requirements, allowing the isotope to support investigational patient treatments. The company said the approval also creates a basis for clinical and commercial programs that require a more dependable Ac-225 supply.
Dr. Gunnar Mann, the executive board member responsible for the Medical Segment, described the approval as a step from production capability to a supply commitment. He said the group had progressed from initial runs in an upscaled process to GMP-grade routine manufacturing. That wording points to a transition from technical production experience toward repeatable supply, although the announcement did not provide revenue guidance or contracted sales volumes.
Process and capacity shape the outlook
The production route starts with cyclotron-based irradiation of Radium-226 at the Nuclear Physics Institute of the Czech Academy of Sciences in ?ež. Eckert & Ziegler then processes the irradiated material at its Braunschweig site. The company said its process limits long-lived impurities including Actinium-227 and Thorium-229.
Supply security is a central part of the announcement. Eckert & Ziegler plans to reuse unconverted Radium-226 after irradiation and return it to the process over several cycles. The group said this can reduce dependence on constrained Radium-226 inventories, limit radioactive waste and support more predictable output and costs for isotope supply and contract development and manufacturing programs.
The company also pointed to a second production phase at its Qi Kang Medical Technology joint venture in Jintan, China. That facility is intended to become the first commercial-scale Ac-225 site in China after initial operations start in early 2027. Further expansion near Boston and in Germany remains under consideration for future commercial supply.
