- Management expects 2027 organic sales growth at the upper end of its 5% to 7% target range.
- Global High-Tech organic sales surged 63% in the third quarter, supported by data center cooling and microelectronics demand.
- Investor Day in mid-November is set to provide further detail on the company's growth and margin plans.
Ecolab's third-quarter performance strengthened the case for a faster-growing business mix, while recent acquisitions continue to weigh on reported earnings. In a Reuters report published on October 28, the company reported adjusted earnings of 2.18 US dollars per share, 7% organic sales growth and organic operating income margin of 19.6%.
The quarter's headline revenue reached 4.69 billion US dollars, slightly below the 4.70 billion US dollars expected by analysts cited in the report. Management nevertheless highlighted broad-based execution, pricing discipline and productivity gains as factors that helped offset higher commodity costs.
High-tech demand reshapes Ecolab
Global High-Tech was the strongest growth engine, with organic sales up 63% in the quarter. Demand came from data center cooling and ultrapure water systems for microelectronics, areas where Ecolab is positioning its water, treatment and digital capabilities around the expansion of artificial intelligence infrastructure.
Life Sciences organic sales increased 17%, while digital sales rose 34%. Chief Executive Christophe Beck said the company is combining water, hygiene, pest and digital services to deepen customer relationships. The company also said its One Ecolab strategy had generated more than 400 million US dollars in sales growth with its largest 35 customers.
Management sets 2027 targets
Management expects 2027 organic sales growth at the upper end of its 5% to 7% target range and continues to target a 20% adjusted operating income margin. Adjusted earnings growth is expected to accelerate in the second half of 2027 as acquisition-related amortization and interest effects become less burdensome.
CoolIT and Ovivo are central to the longer-term investment case, but their integration creates near-term pressure on reported earnings. Management said commodity costs are likely to remain elevated through 2027 and will need to be managed through pricing and operational efficiency. Further details are expected at the company's Investor Day in mid-November.
