- Elevance Health raised its adjusted 2026 earnings outlook after stronger third-quarter operating performance.
- Zacks Research lifted its 2026 EPS forecast, while keeping the estimate below the analyst consensus.
- Medical membership and Medicaid margins remain important signals for the insurer's 2027 earnings path.
Elevance Health enters the new week with a higher earnings baseline but continued pressure to prove that margin improvement can persist. Management raised its 2026 outlook after third-quarter results, while Zacks Research increased its full-year EPS forecast in a note issued on Tuesday, November 3.
Higher guidance meets new estimates
Elevance Health said on October 21 that third-quarter operating revenue reached 50.4 billion US dollars, up 0.7 percent from the prior-year period. Adjusted diluted earnings per share came to 6.99 US dollars, supported by improved operating performance and a net non-operating benefit of 1.85 US dollars per share, according to the company's earnings release.
The insurer raised its 2026 adjusted diluted EPS outlook to at least 29.00 US dollars and its operating cash flow outlook to at least 6.5 billion US dollars. Management also set a higher earnings baseline of at least 26.75 US dollars and reiterated its expectation for at least 12 percent adjusted EPS growth in 2027.
Analysts raise the bar
MarketBeat reported on November 5 that Zacks Research lifted its 2026 EPS forecast to 29.02 US dollars from 27.06 US dollars. The revised estimate remained below the 29.18 US dollar consensus cited in the report. Zacks also raised several longer-dated estimates, although its revisions were not higher across every quarter.
The operating picture remains mixed. Elevance Health's benefit expense ratio improved to 90.6 percent in the third quarter, but medical membership fell by about 487,000 from a year earlier to approximately 44.9 million. Health Benefits revenue increased, while segment operating gain declined as the company made targeted investments.
Margins remain the next test
Medicaid and Medicare Advantage remain central to the investment case. The company said its Medicaid margin is expected to reach a trough in 2026 and improve in 2027, while the longer-term target range is higher. Investors will therefore focus on medical cost trends, membership development and evidence that pricing is catching up with care costs.
