- Third-quarter production rose year over year, while Equinor raised its 2026 oil and gas production growth guidance.
- The Afrodite appraisal well more than doubled the estimated recoverable North Sea gas and condensate volumes.
- Equinor approved a final 2026 buyback tranche as it expands power and exploration activities.
Equinor reported stronger third-quarter results on October 28, 2026, and raised its 2026 oil and gas production growth guidance. The company also expanded its North Sea resource outlook a day later, giving investors two operational developments to assess.
According to Equinor, adjusted operating income reached USD 12.35 billion in the third quarter, while adjusted net income was USD 2.86 billion. Total equity production rose 2 percent from a year earlier to 2,166 thousand barrels of oil equivalent per day. Equinor lifted its 2026 production growth guidance from 3 percent to around 4 percent.
Gas discovery adds resource potential
On October 29, Equinor said a new appraisal well at the Afrodite discovery near the Kvitebjørn field had more than doubled the estimated recoverable gas and condensate volumes. The company now puts the range at 77 million to 180 million barrels of oil equivalent, while noting that the low-permeability reservoir could make extraction technically demanding.
The company said it considers the discovery commercially viable and is assessing a possible subsea development tied back to the Kvitebjørn platform. Existing infrastructure could connect future production with the Kollsnes processing plant and European markets.
Buyback supports capital return
Equinor's board approved a fourth and final 2026 buyback tranche of up to USD 1.125 billion. The programme is scheduled to start on October 29 and brings the expected 2026 buyback to as much as USD 3 billion. The company also declared a third-quarter cash dividend of USD 0.39 per share.
