Ericsson stock has a new network-sensing catalyst after the company unveiled a system for tracking drones. Commercial pilots are planned for 2027.

Ericsson expands network technology focus

  • Ericsson introduced an Integrated Sensing and Communication system for detecting and tracking drones through mobile networks.
  • Selected sensing-only commercial pilots are planned for 2027, with broader deployments expected from 2028.
  • Ericsson and Telia also launched a Swedish 6G collaboration focused on trials, security and network performance.

Ericsson introduced a new Integrated Sensing and Communication system on Monday, November 2, 2026, adding a commercial technology development to the AI-network focus ahead of Mobile World Congress Doha. In its announcement, Ericsson said the system uses existing mobile-network infrastructure to detect and track moving objects, including drones that are not connected to the network.

Ericsson stock traded at 9.89 euros on Lang & Schwarz at 15:11 CET on Monday, November 2, 2026. That compares with 9.98 euros at 17:06 CET on Sunday, November 1, in the latest report, a decline of 0.90 percent between the two quoted points.

Drone sensing moves toward pilots

The system combines 5G radios, edge computing, artificial intelligence and signal processing. Ericsson said validated tests detected and tracked micro drones over kilometer-scale distances with three-dimensional positioning.

Selected small-scale sensing-only commercial pilots are expected to begin in 2027. Wider-scale deployments are planned from 2028, while integrated communications capabilities are intended to develop as the technology moves toward 6G.

The commercial case remains at an early stage. Ericsson is targeting defense, public safety and critical-infrastructure operators, and presents the system as a complement to radar and other sensors rather than a replacement.

6G roadmap adds a second signal

Ericsson and Telia also announced a Swedish 6G collaboration on November 2. Their memorandum covers trials and demonstrations, security, resilience, coverage, performance, energy efficiency and cooperation with industry, academia, startups and public-sector organizations.

The partners demonstrated pre-standard 6G technology in the upper 6 GHz band and showed integrated sensing capabilities for detecting and tracking drones. For investors, the announcements broaden Ericsson's pipeline narrative, but they do not quantify near-term revenue contribution.

Swedish equities will enter the week with the OMXS30 as the relevant market benchmark.
