- Evonik posted stronger third-quarter earnings despite weak economic growth and geopolitical tensions.
- Higher prices and volumes lifted sales, while Advanced Technologies delivered the strongest segment contribution.
- Management expects fourth-quarter earnings to exceed the prior-year level and raised its confidence in capital returns.
Evonik reported a stronger third quarter on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, and raised its confidence that full-year operating earnings will land in the upper half of its existing range. The Evonik press release said adjusted EBITDA rose 40 percent year on year to 629 million euros in the July-to-September period.
Revenue increased 13 percent from the prior-year quarter, helped by a 10 percent rise in prices and 2 percent higher volumes. Free cash flow reached 369 million euros, compared with 300 million euros a year earlier. The company nevertheless posted a net loss of 53 million euros, as a 313 million euro provision for the extension of its Tailor Made efficiency program weighed on reported earnings.
Stronger Segments Support The Recovery
Advanced Technologies was the main earnings driver. Segment sales increased 19 percent to 1.713 billion euros, while adjusted EBITDA surged 87 percent to 377 million euros. Its margin expanded to 22.0 percent from 14.0 percent in the prior-year quarter, reflecting higher volumes, selling prices and efficiency gains.
Custom Solutions delivered a more moderate improvement. Sales rose 4 percent to 1.394 billion euros and adjusted EBITDA increased 7 percent to 231 million euros. Evonik said higher selling prices mainly reflected the pass-through of raw-material costs, while volumes were unchanged.
The earnings increase was slightly below market expectations. Reuters reported that adjusted EBITDA came in just below the 633.2 million euro consensus compiled by Vara Research. The company maintained its full-year adjusted EBITDA range of 2.0 billion to 2.2 billion euros, but now expects the result in its upper half. It also anticipates higher fourth-quarter earnings than in the same period of 2025.
Evonik stock traded at 21.27 euros on Lang & Schwarz at 12:06 CET on Wednesday, November 4, 1.19 percent above the Xetra close of Tuesday, November 3. Investors can follow the real-time quote of Evonik stock.
Management also expects return on capital employed to exceed 8 percent in 2026, compared with 6.1 percent in 2025, and is targeting about 11 percent by 2029. Full-year free cash flow is expected at about 850 million euros, with a cash conversion rate of about 40 percent. The planned sale process for Oxeno is progressing, while preparations for a possible sale of Syneqt have begun.
Evonik's next scheduled reporting date is March 4, 2027, when the company is due to present its fourth-quarter and full-year 2026 results.
