- Adjusted EBITDA rose 40 percent year on year in the third quarter to EUR 629 million.
- Management expects full-year adjusted EBITDA in the upper half of its EUR 2.0 billion to EUR 2.2 billion range.
- A EUR 313 million provision for the extended efficiency program pushed quarterly net income into a loss.
Evonik reported a stronger third quarter on November 3, 2026, with adjusted EBITDA rising faster than sales and management becoming more confident about the full-year outcome. The company's Q3 2026 results show a sharper operating recovery, although exceptional costs continue to affect the bottom line.
The real-time quote of Evonik stock showed the shares trading at EUR 21.07 on Lang & Schwarz at 18:04 CET on Friday, November 6, 0.24 percent below the Xetra close of Friday, November 6.
Operating recovery meets cost pressure
Adjusted EBITDA increased 40 percent year on year to EUR 629 million in the July-to-September period. Sales rose 13 percent to EUR 3.825 billion, supported by higher prices and volumes. Evonik said the quarter marked its strongest sales increase in four years.
The earnings improvement was led by Advanced Technologies, where adjusted EBITDA climbed 87 percent to EUR 377 million. Custom Solutions added a more moderate 7 percent increase to EUR 231 million. Free cash flow reached EUR 369 million in the quarter and EUR 601 million in the first nine months.
Management expects 2026 adjusted EBITDA in the upper half of the EUR 2.0 billion to EUR 2.2 billion guidance range and anticipates fourth-quarter earnings above the prior-year level. It also lifted its return on capital employed expectation for 2026 to more than 8 percent, compared with 6.1 percent in 2025.
Restructuring keeps investors cautious
The improved operating result does not remove the pressure from the efficiency program. Evonik set aside EUR 313 million for measures including severance payments, leaving third-quarter net income at a loss of EUR 53 million, although that was narrower than the EUR 106 million loss a year earlier.
For investors, the key distinction is between adjusted operating earnings and cash available after restructuring costs. Management expects free cash flow of EUR 850 million for 2026, while the planned cost program remains an important factor in assessing how much of the earnings recovery reaches the balance sheet.
