FedEx earnings and outlook

  • FedEx raised its calendar-2026 adjusted earnings and revenue-growth forecasts after a stronger September quarter.
  • Adjusted earnings and operating income increased, while reported net income fell because of a loss tied to the retained FedEx Freight investment.
  • Share repurchases, network savings and a planned parcel-rate increase will shape the next phase of the investment case.

FedEx reported stronger-than-expected results for the quarter ended September 30 on Wednesday, October 28, and lifted its calendar-2026 outlook. The company said revenue reached 22.9 billion US dollars, compared with 20.4 billion US dollars a year earlier, according to an AD HOC NEWS report based on the company's announcement.

The real-time quote of FedEx stock was 283.75 euros on Lang & Schwarz at 16:14 CET on Friday, October 30, 2.18 percent above the Xetra close of Thursday, October 29.

Higher guidance after stronger quarter

Adjusted diluted earnings per share rose to 3.74 US dollars from 2.93 US dollars a year earlier. Adjusted net income increased to 896 million US dollars from 693 million US dollars, while adjusted operating income advanced to 1.20 billion US dollars from 1.03 billion US dollars. The adjusted operating margin widened to 5.3 percent from 5.1 percent.

Reported net income moved in the opposite direction, falling to 290 million US dollars from 645 million US dollars. The decline mainly reflected a 1.2 billion US dollar loss on FedEx's retained investment in FedEx Freight after the spin-off. Higher package yields, stronger volumes and structural cost reductions supported the quarter, but purchased-transportation rates, wages, variable compensation and trade-policy effects remained offsets.

FedEx raised its calendar-2026 adjusted earnings outlook to 18.00 to 18.60 US dollars per share from 16.90 to 18.10 US dollars previously. Its revenue-growth forecast increased to approximately 12 percent from approximately 11 percent. The company expects capital spending of 3.9 billion US dollars and pension contributions of 475 million US dollars.

Capital returns and operating priorities

FedEx repurchased 2.0 billion US dollars of shares between June and September, with 4.3 billion US dollars remaining under its 2026 authorization. The company completed the FedEx Freight spin-off on June 1 while retaining a 19.9 percent stake, and sold FedEx Supply Chain to CMA CGM Group on October 1 for approximately 1.4 billion US dollars.

FedEx plans an average 5.9 percent increase in parcel shipping rates from January 4, 2027. Investors will therefore focus on whether pricing, network optimization and cost reductions can sustain profit growth beyond the current guidance period.
