Fuchs Petrolub stock cut to Hold as pricing risks rise

- Jefferies lowered its rating to Hold while acknowledging Fuchs' strong third quarter and upgraded full-year outlook.
- The broker expects pricing and market-share gains to normalize as raw-material supply conditions improve.
- Fuchs continues to benefit from customer contracts, geographic expansion and demand linked to electrification and sustainability.
Jefferies has downgraded FUCHS SE from Buy to Hold and lowered its price target for the preference shares from 48 euros to 46 euros. The assessment was published on Monday, November 2, and reported by Yahoo Finance, citing the broker's view that pricing and market-share tailwinds will become harder to sustain in 2027.
Jefferies said Fuchs delivered another strong quarter and that the upgraded full-year outlook still appeared conservative. The broker's concern is therefore focused less on operating execution than on the balance between valuation and future returns.
Pricing tailwinds face normalization
According to the report, tight supplies of Group III and Group IV base oils supported pricing discussions and helped Fuchs win customers during 2026. Some of those gains were secured through multi-year contracts, which could support growth beyond the current year.
Jefferies nevertheless expects the combination of supply scarcity, higher prices and incremental market-share gains to become less favorable as supply conditions normalize. Management also expects first-half pre-buying effects to unwind by year-end and volume growth to return to more normal historical levels in 2027.
October trading was broadly unchanged from the third quarter, but the broker highlighted limited visibility around year-end customer orders. It said Fuchs traded at about 16.3 times estimated 2027 earnings, close to its three-year and five-year averages of 16.1 times, leaving limited scope for multiple expansion.
Strong results support the outlook
Fuchs raised its 2026 sales outlook to about 4.1 billion euros and its EBIT outlook to about 500 million euros after reporting strong nine-month results. Sales increased 16 percent to 3.126 billion euros, while EBIT rose 25 percent to 409 million euros. The EBIT margin improved to 13.1 percent from 12.1 percent.
Cash conversion was weaker: free cash flow before acquisitions fell to 92 million euros from 181 million euros, mainly because inflation and higher prices increased net working capital. That contrast leaves investors weighing stronger profitability against greater cash tied up in the operating business.
Fuchs Petrolub stock traded at 43.41 euros on Lang & Schwarz at 12:01 CET on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, 0.07 percent above the Xetra close of 43.38 euros on Tuesday, November 3. The quotation was below Jefferies' new 46-euro target, while the downgrade indicates that the broker sees balanced risk and reward rather than a deterioration in the company's current operating performance.
