Third-quarter momentum lifts guidance
According to GE Vernova, third-quarter revenue rose 27% to USD 12.6 billion, with organic growth of 18% led by Power and Electrification. Orders reached USD 29 billion, up 96% organically, while the backlog increased by USD 20 billion sequentially to USD 197 billion.
Net income was USD 1.3 billion, producing a 10.2% margin. Adjusted EBITDA reached USD 1.9 billion, and the adjusted EBITDA margin expanded to 15.4%, an organic improvement of 690 basis points. Operating cash flow was USD 6.1 billion and free cash flow was USD 5.4 billion.
Chief Executive Scott Strazik said the company expects the backlog to exceed USD 200 billion in the fourth quarter and aims to exit 2026 with at least 130 gigawatts of gas equipment under contract. Gas Power backlog and slot reservation agreements had risen to 122 gigawatts from 116 gigawatts in the previous quarter.
Higher targets strengthen the outlook
GE Vernova now expects 2026 revenue of USD 46.5 billion to USD 47.5 billion, compared with the previous range of USD 45.5 billion to USD 46.5 billion. The adjusted EBITDA margin target increased to 13.5% to 14.5% from 12% to 14%, while free cash flow guidance moved to USD 16 billion to USD 17 billion from USD 11.5 billion to USD 12.5 billion.
The board also increased the share repurchase authorization to USD 20 billion from USD 10 billion. Management said stronger margins, expanding orders and cash generation support further investment and shareholder returns.
Trench expands grid capabilities
The planned Trench acquisition would add high-voltage grid equipment and strengthen GE Vernova's Electrification portfolio. The transaction is valued at USD 9.0 billion and reflects 13 times Trench's expected 2028 adjusted EBITDA before synergies. GE Vernova expects the deal to close in late 2027, subject to customary regulatory approvals.
Trench brings approximately USD 5 billion in backlog and framework agreements, some extending into the next decade, according to Strazik. GE Vernova also said the acquisition should provide manufacturing capacity and technology for a grid-modernization market supported by rising electricity demand.
What investors should watch
The next test is execution: GE Vernova must convert its large backlog into revenue and sustain the margin gains behind the higher targets. The Trench transaction remains a longer-term development because its expected closing is more than a year away.
