- Marine Systems revenue rose 21.1% year over year in the third quarter as submarine construction volumes increased.
- Management expects 2026 revenue of $56.5 billion to $56.8 billion and an operating margin near 10.5%.
- Investors will weigh the record order book against shipyard execution and elevated capital spending.
General Dynamics reported broad-based third-quarter growth on October 30, led by Marine Systems and strong defense bookings. The company raised its full-year 2026 earnings outlook after revenue climbed 12.9% year over year to $14.6 billion, according to the General Dynamics results release.
Orders reshape the outlook
Orders totaled $98.8 billion in the quarter, including $93.8 billion in the defense businesses. The resulting backlog reached $220.3 billion, while estimated potential contract value added another $50.4 billion.
Marine Systems was the main growth engine. Quarterly revenue increased 21.1% to $5.0 billion, and operating earnings rose 34.4% to $391 million. The company linked the expansion to higher construction volumes for Columbia-class and Virginia-class submarines, among other programs.
Guidance moves higher
General Dynamics now expects 2026 diluted earnings per share of $17.20 to $17.30, compared with its prior range of $16.80 to $16.90. The forecast also calls for revenue of $56.5 billion to $56.8 billion and an operating margin near 10.5%.
The company generated $1.7 billion in operating cash flow during the quarter and reduced total debt by $500 million. At the same time, capital expenditure reached $481 million, with management expecting full-year capital spending of 3.5% to 4% of sales.
