- Management maintained its 2026 banking net interest income target of at least 46 billion US dollars.
- The board approved a third interim dividend and HSBC plans another share buyback of up to 1 billion US dollars.
- Reported third-quarter profit before tax benefited from the non-recurrence of earlier legal provisions.
HSBC Holdings kept its financial targets unchanged after reporting a stronger third quarter, while a new dividend and planned buyback reinforced its capital-return strategy. In its HSBC 3Q 2026 earnings release dated Tuesday, October 27, the bank said third-quarter profit before tax rose 32 percent year over year to 9.6 billion US dollars.
HSBC stock traded at 15.34 euros on Lang & Schwarz at 18:01 CET on Monday, November 2, 2026, 0.32 percent below the Xetra close of Monday, November 2, at 15.39 euros. The comparison uses the completed Xetra session rather than the prior-session close.
Capital returns support the outlook
The board approved a third interim dividend of 0.10 US dollars per share. HSBC also said it intends to begin a share buyback of up to 1 billion US dollars, following completion of the previous 1 billion US dollar programme on September 28.
The latest release adds a reported-profit perspective to the bank's adjusted performance. Profit before tax excluding notable items reached 10.0 billion US dollars, while annualised return on average tangible equity was 18.2 percent on the same basis. Reported profit benefited in part from the non-recurrence of 1.4 billion US dollars in legal provisions recorded in the year-earlier quarter.
Targets remain unchanged
HSBC continues to target banking net interest income of at least 46 billion US dollars in 2026 and a return on tangible equity of at least 17 percent for 2026 through 2028, excluding notable items. The bank also retained its 50 percent target dividend payout ratio and expects target-basis operating expenses to grow by about 1 percent in 2026.
