- HUGO BOSS reported a 5 percent currency-adjusted sales decline in the third quarter and a 7 percent decline for the first nine months.
- Gross margin rose by 220 basis points to 63.3 percent, while quarterly EBIT fell to 81 million euros.
- Management now expects 2026 currency-adjusted sales to decline in the high single-digit percentage range and EBIT to reach 250 million to 300 million euros.
HUGO BOSS lowered its full-year 2026 outlook on Tuesday, November 3, as demand remained subdued and uncertainty increased ahead of the final quarter. In its company release, the fashion group said currency-adjusted sales are now expected to decline in the high single-digit percentage range in 2026, while EBIT is forecast at 250 million to 300 million euros.
Group sales declined 5 percent on a currency-adjusted basis in the third quarter and were down 7 percent for the first nine months. HUGO BOSS attributed the pressure to its ongoing strategic realignment and macroeconomic headwinds. Chief Executive Daniel Grieder said the consumer environment remained persistently subdued and that demand could stay volatile in the fourth quarter.
Margins Improve While Profit Slips
The quarter also showed progress on profitability drivers. Gross margin improved by 220 basis points to 63.3 percent, supported by the CLAIM 5 TOUCHDOWN initiatives. The company cited sourcing efficiencies and optimized pricing as contributors to the improvement.
Those gains did not offset the effect of lower sales on operating profit. EBIT fell to 81 million euros, producing an EBIT margin of 8.6 percent. For the first nine months, EBIT stood at 175 million euros, with a margin of 6.4 percent. HUGO BOSS described the quarterly decline as operating deleverage, as fixed costs weigh more heavily when revenue falls.
Cash Flow Offers Operational Support
Cash generation was more resilient than the income statement. Free cash flow before leases increased to 155 million euros in the third quarter, helped by a 14 percent year-over-year reduction in inventories. Management also expects trade net working capital to amount to around 21 percent of group sales for 2026 and capital expenditure to range between 4 percent and 5 percent of sales.
The updated guidance reflects two pressures. HUGO BOSS expects softer demand in the fourth quarter, while higher non-cash depreciation and amortization for selected IT assets will also weigh on EBIT. The company said the useful lives of those assets are being reassessed against faster changes in artificial intelligence and technology.
