- ING added 259,000 mobile primary customers during the quarter.
- The CET1 ratio stood at 13.3 percent after two risk-transfer transactions.
- Wholesale Banking is being simplified as the bank maintains its 2026 outlook.
On October 29, 2026, ING Groep reported a third-quarter net result of EUR 1.85 billion, up 3.5 percent year-on-year, while return on tangible equity reached 16.3 percent. The figures were published in the ING 3Q2026 press release.
Commercial momentum meets softer expectations
ING said its mobile primary customer base increased by 259,000 in the quarter. Net core lending grew by EUR 11.0 billion, deposits by EUR 12.1 billion and fee income by 9.3 percent year-on-year to EUR 1.273 billion. Profit before tax rose 5.7 percent to EUR 2.705 billion.
According to Reuters, published by Euronext, the result was below a EUR 1.97 billion analyst consensus. The report attributed the shortfall to higher loan-loss charges, weaker treasury income and somewhat higher costs. ING's chief risk officer said a EUR 111 million management overlay related to an accounting-model update was the main driver of the higher risk costs, rather than a deterioration in underlying credit quality.
Distribution and restructuring
ING announced a further EUR 1.9 billion distribution after completing its previous buyback programme. Reuters reported that this comprises a new EUR 1.65 billion share buyback and an additional EUR 250 million cash distribution planned for January 2027. ING also plans to simplify its Wholesale Banking activities; the Reuters report said the reorganisation is expected to result in around 400 job cuts globally.
The CET1 ratio was 13.3 percent, supported in part by two significant risk-transfer transactions that generated EUR 3.0 billion of risk-weighted-asset relief. ING maintained its 2026 outlook, leaving investors to weigh resilient commercial growth against interest-rate volatility and more cautious loan-demand signals.
