- Intesa Sanpaolo said the OPAS can proceed after the Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena shareholder meeting.
- ECB and sector approvals have cleared key regulatory steps for the planned acquisition of control.
- The next scheduled transaction milestone is November 3, 2026.
Intesa Sanpaolo moved its planned acquisition of control of Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena into its next stage after a sequence of regulatory and shareholder decisions. The bank's investor-relations page said on October 30 that the OPAS would proceed following the MPS shareholders' meeting held on October 29.
The development followed the European Central Bank's prior authorisation on October 27 and the completion of all prior authorisations required under applicable sector rules on October 28. Together, the decisions remove key formal hurdles, although the transaction process still has further steps to complete.
Shareholder vote clears latest hurdle
The October 29 meeting outcome opened the way for Intesa Sanpaolo's offer to advance. The bank's announcement did not describe the transaction as completed, keeping execution and the remaining timetable in focus for investors.
The investor-relations calendar lists November 3, 2026, as the next milestone for the MPS transaction. That date gives shareholders and the market a near-term point at which further progress may become clearer.
