Kering is accelerating its retail restructuring after closing 105 net stores in the first nine months of 2026. The French luxury group has raised its full-year target to at least 125 net closures, according to a Yahoo Finance report published on Wednesday, November 4.

Kering completed 128 closures and opened 23 locations during the first nine months, leaving the directly operated network at 1,614 stores at the end of the third quarter. The company had initially planned 100 net closures for the full year, a target it exceeded ahead of schedule. The new objective implies at least 20 additional net closures before year-end.

Store network weighs on sales

Most of the reductions were in the Asia-Pacific region within Fashion and Leather Goods, with Gucci accounting for the largest share among Kering's brands. The closures followed 75 net closures in 2025 and are intended to improve the productivity of the remaining network, according to Chief Financial Officer Armelle Poulou.

Poulou said store closures reduced sales growth by one percentage point in the first half of 2026, before recaptured sales were considered. The headwind is expected to reach two percentage points in the second half. Kering is also refurbishing selected stores and seeking to strengthen the customer experience.

Gucci remains the central test

The retail changes come as Kering works through continuing weakness at Gucci. Group revenue in the third quarter was approximately 3.3 billion euros, down 1 percent on a comparable basis. Fashion and Leather Goods revenue declined 3 percent on that basis, while Gucci revenue fell 6 percent. The group's directly operated retail network, including e-commerce, declined 3 percent, whereas wholesale and other revenue rose 3 percent.

Management is focusing on rebuilding Gucci's desirability, giving local teams more authority in China and improving products and efficiency. Those priorities include more marketing, stronger client engagement, a simpler product range, tighter inventory control and lower operating costs. The pace of store closures therefore provides a measurable sign of restructuring, but it also reduces physical distribution while demand remains under pressure.
