Knorr-Bremse stock slips after strong Q3 profit and rail caution

Published on 10/30/2026 at 10:52 | Editorial responsibility: Rafael Müller, Editor-in-Chief AD HOC NEWS
Knorr-Bremse stock faces mixed signals after a sharp margin improvement and weaker rail orders. Management kept its 2026 outlook intact.

Profitability rises while rail orders lag

  • Knorr-Bremse delivered its strongest quarterly operating profitability in more than five years.
  • The Truck division benefited from recovering demand in North America and Europe, while Rail order intake declined year over year.
  • Management expects full-year revenue and free cash flow to reach the upper end of the 2026 guidance ranges.

Knorr-Bremse delivered a strong third quarter operationally, but weaker Rail orders added a note of caution for investors. In its corporate release on Wednesday, October 28, the braking and mobility systems supplier said operating EBIT rose 19.1 percent year over year to 299 million euros, while the operating EBIT margin reached 14.6 percent from 13.3 percent.

The figures were published by Knorr-Bremse. Consolidated revenue increased 9.0 percent to 2.051 billion euros, and free cash flow climbed 49.8 percent to 238 million euros. The company described the operating result as its second-highest quarterly level and the margin as its best in more than five years.

Truck recovery offsets rail weakness

Group order intake rose 4.9 percent to 2.053 billion euros, while the order book expanded 7.0 percent to 7.883 billion euros as of September 30. The division split was uneven: Rail order intake fell 10.9 percent to 1.045 billion euros, although revenue increased 6.1 percent to 1.114 billion euros and operating EBIT advanced 9.9 percent to 197 million euros.

Truck provided the stronger growth contribution. Its order intake increased 30.1 percent to 1.018 billion euros, revenue rose 12.5 percent to 938 million euros and operating EBIT advanced 31.9 percent to 116 million euros. The operating EBIT margin improved to 12.3 percent from 10.5 percent, supported by a recovery in North America and Europe and by efficiency measures.

Knorr-Bremse expects Rail order intake to partly recover in the fourth quarter, with a target of around 1.2 billion euros. The company also said its BOOST efficiency program is transitioning into the next strategic phase, Growth Beyond.

Guidance remains at the upper end

Management confirmed its 2026 operating outlook and expects both revenue and free cash flow at the upper end of their respective ranges. The guidance calls for revenue of 8.1 billion to 8.3 billion euros, an operating EBIT margin of 14.0 percent to 14.5 percent and free cash flow of 750 million to 850 million euros. The outlook assumes that the Middle East crisis does not intensify or persist in a way that disrupts supply chains.
