Lam Research stock tests memory thesis as supply risks persist

- Memory makers accounted for 46 percent of systems revenue in the September quarter.
- Aether tools are ramping in high-volume HBM production, supporting Lam Research's longer-term growth case.
- Component availability, clean-room capacity and weaker China sales remain near-term execution risks.
Lam Research is caught between strong memory-chip demand and limits on how quickly equipment can reach customers. A fresh analysis from Trefis adds detail to the investment debate after the recent share-price decline.
Memory Demand Supports The Growth Case
Trefis said memory makers generated 46 percent of Lam Research's systems revenue in the September quarter, matching the June quarter. Memory revenue reached a record and increased 120 percent from a year earlier, while total quarterly revenue rose 54.4 percent to 8.22 billion US dollars.
Management said on the October 21 earnings call that Aether tools were already ramping in high-volume manufacturing of high-bandwidth memory chips. The company also sees additional opportunities with DRAM and foundry-logic customers and expects cumulative Aether revenue of about 2.5 billion US dollars by the end of the decade.
Supply And China Temper The Outlook
Lam Research expects global chipmaking-equipment spending to exceed 200 billion US dollars in calendar 2027, with DRAM leading growth, followed by foundry logic and NAND. That is a management forecast, not a reported result. Clean-room capacity and component availability could still prevent customers and equipment makers from fully meeting demand.
The near-term outlook is constrained by the same issue. Lam Research guided December-quarter revenue to 8.6 billion US dollars, plus or minus 400 million US dollars, and said the projection would have been higher without supply constraints. China is also expected to contribute a meaningfully smaller share of revenue as domestic-customer sales weaken.
Lam Research stock traded at 174.87 euros on Lang & Schwarz at 16:31 CET on Thursday, November 5, 2026. That was 7.17 percent below the 188.37-euro quote in the November 5 report at 13:50 CET, highlighting a sharp change within the session rather than a Xetra daily performance measure.
The next major operating checkpoint is the quarterly report expected in January 2027. Investors will watch whether memory demand converts into shipments and whether supply restrictions or weaker China sales limit revenue growth.
