- Underlying net interest income rose 10% year on year in the first nine months.
- Return on tangible equity reached 17.9%, while the CET1 ratio stood at 13.3%.
- Deposit competition remains a constraint even as customer lending expanded.
Lloyds Banking Group reported stronger third-quarter earnings on 29 October 2026, but kept its full-year targets unchanged. In its Q3 2026 results presentation, the bank reported nine-month statutory profit before tax of GBP 6.625 billion, up from GBP 4.678 billion a year earlier. The comparison benefited from a much lower remediation charge than in the prior-year period.
Income growth meets margin pressure
Underlying net interest income increased 10% year on year to GBP 11.084 billion, while underlying other income also rose 10% to GBP 4.996 billion. Net income reached GBP 14.819 billion for the nine months, and the banking net interest margin was 3.21%.
Customer lending stood at GBP 495.5 billion at 30 September, up GBP 14.4 billion, or 3%, from the start of 2026. Deposits reached GBP 502.8 billion, an increase of GBP 6.3 billion, although the company said retail balances were broadly stable and that competition in deposits remained intense.
Guidance remains unchanged
Lloyds said it remains on track for 2026 underlying net interest income above GBP 14.9 billion, a cost-to-income ratio below 50%, an asset quality ratio of about 25 basis points, return on tangible equity above 16% and capital generation above 200 basis points. The CET1 ratio was 13.3% after the interim dividend, share buyback and the completed acquisition of Curve.
Reuters reported that Lloyds shares fell 6% in early trading. The news service linked the reaction to investor disappointment that the bank did not upgrade its performance targets. It also noted the prospect of higher UK bank taxes, while Lloyds said deposit-market competition was tightening.
