- LSEG's Digital Securities Depository received Gate 2 approval under the UK Digital Securities Sandbox.
- The approved link with HSBC Orion is intended to support investor access to the DIGIT pilot.
- Settlement-finality designations for HSBC and LSEG remain a condition for the arrangement.
London Stock Exchange Group's digital securities business reached a new regulatory milestone on November 2, 2026. In a release published that day, LSEG said its Digital Securities Depository had received Gate 2 approval under the UK Digital Securities Sandbox.
Approval expands digital settlement reach
The approval covers notary, maintenance and settlement functions. It also includes a standard link between LSEG's depository and HSBC Bank's HSBC Orion platform for instruments including the UK's Digital Gilt Instrument, or DIGIT.
LSEG is intended to act as an investor depository for the pilot, while HSBC Orion serves as the issuer depository. The arrangement is designed to give investors access to DIGIT through either infrastructure and to improve interoperability between digital securities platforms.
The approval does not complete every regulatory step. LSEG said the DIGIT arrangement remains subject to settlement-finality designation approvals for HSBC and LSEG. Its Digital Settlement House, or DiSH, is intended to provide the cash leg for transactions executed on LSEG's depository, including the pilot.
What has changed since the last report
The development adds a concrete infrastructure milestone to the stronger operating outlook and Octus acquisition update covered in the previous report. It gives LSEG's digital-markets strategy a clearer path toward live activity inside the sandbox, although the pilot's execution still depends on the remaining regulatory approvals and market adoption.
