Lumen Technologies reported its third-quarter 2026 results on Wednesday, November 4, with strategic revenue growth offset by continued pressure on the broader business. In the company's Lumen investor relations release, total revenue was $2.715 billion, down from $3.087 billion a year earlier.

Strategic revenue gains ground

Strategic revenue increased 10 percent year over year to $1.279 billion and accounted for 55 percent of business revenue. Legacy revenue fell 17 percent to $1.067 billion, while total business revenue declined 4 percent to $2.346 billion. The company said more than 4,000 customers were using its Network-as-a-Service platform, with active customers up 24 percent sequentially and active ports up 38 percent.

Reported net loss narrowed to $265 million from $621 million in the prior-year quarter. Adjusted EBITDA excluding special items was $715 million, compared with $787 million a year earlier, while the corresponding margin increased to 26.3 percent from 25.5 percent. Free cash flow excluding special items was negative $76 million, versus positive $1.661 billion in the third quarter of 2025.

Guidance remains unchanged

Lumen reiterated its 2026 outlook for adjusted EBITDA excluding special items of $3.1 billion to $3.3 billion and free cash flow excluding special items of $1.9 billion to $2.1 billion. The guidance includes $729 million of proceeds from the Mass Markets fiber-to-the-home divestiture. Lumen also continues to target a return to business revenue growth in 2028.
