MetLife reported its third-quarter 2026 results on Wednesday, November 4, with record adjusted earnings per share and revenue growth across all six business segments. The company said adjusted earnings rose 12 percent to 1.8 billion US dollars, while adjusted earnings per share excluding notable items increased 22 percent to 2.85 US dollars.

The results were published in a MetLife Business Wire release for the quarter ended September 30. Premiums, fees and other revenues rose 12 percent to 14.1 billion US dollars, while adjusted premiums, fees and other revenues excluding pension risk transfers increased 8 percent to 13.5 billion US dollars.

Operating Growth Across Segments

Group Benefits adjusted earnings rose 15 percent to 523 million US dollars. Retirement and Income Solutions posted adjusted earnings of 413 million US dollars, down 6 percent on a reported basis, but earnings excluding notable items increased 12 percent to 478 million US dollars. Asia, Latin America, Europe, the Middle East and Africa, and MetLife Investment Management also reported higher adjusted earnings.

The release said the annual actuarial assumption review reduced adjusted earnings by 46 million US dollars. Excluding total notable items, adjusted earnings reached 1.826 billion US dollars, compared with 1.566 billion US dollars in the prior-year quarter.

Legacy Policies Remain In Focus

Separately, the Ontario Superior Court of Justice approved a 213.5 million Canadian dollar settlement on October 27 related to certain life insurance policies originally sold by Metropolitan Life Insurance Company in Canada. The Advisor.ca report said the agreement covers about 70,000 current and former policyholders and includes compensation and limits on selected policy charges. Sun Life administers the policies and has said it would seek recovery from MetLife under an indemnity arrangement.

MetLife stock traded at 88.19 euros on Lang & Schwarz at 11:14 CET on Saturday, November 7, 2026.

For investors, the quarter highlights earnings momentum from underwriting, investment income and volume growth, while the Canadian case keeps historical policy obligations on the agenda. The company also said it returned approximately 1 billion US dollars to shareholders through repurchases and common stock dividends.
