- Micron's latest twelve-month net income reached 85.0 billion US dollars after 8.54 billion US dollars in the prior period.
- Management expects tight memory conditions through 2028, while price growth and start-up costs remain key risks.
- The next quarterly report in December will put gross margin and demand resilience under renewed scrutiny.
Micron Technology's earnings power and the durability of the artificial-intelligence memory boom are back in focus. In an analysis published Wednesday, November 4, 2026, Trefis said the stock had lost 19.6 percent between October 5 and November 3, while the S&P 500 declined 2.6 percent. The analysis followed Micron's record fiscal fourth-quarter report on September 30.

Profit growth raises the stakes
Trefis said Micron generated 85.0 billion US dollars of net income in the twelve months ended September 3, 2026, compared with 8.54 billion US dollars in the preceding twelve-month period. Its operating margin reached 74.6 percent, versus 18.7 percent for the S&P 500. At the November 3 close, the stock traded at 11.4 times trailing earnings, compared with 22.8 times for the index.
That valuation depends on whether Micron can sustain earnings that rose sharply during the latest memory upcycle. Management said on the September 30 earnings call that market conditions should remain tight through 2028 and that it expects strong financial performance to continue. The company also expects margins to widen during fiscal 2027 as prices rise, although management indicated that price increases should slow.
Memory pricing remains the key variable
The main risk is that higher prices attract additional supply before demand from AI data centers can absorb it. Trefis noted that Micron's first-quarter fiscal 2027 guidance assumes only single-digit bit growth for both DRAM and NAND compared with the prior quarter. That points to modest shipment growth and leaves future profit expansion more dependent on pricing and mix.
Micron's fiscal fourth-quarter gross margin reached 86.8 percent, compared with 44.7 percent a year earlier. A material decline in the next report would challenge the view that the latest earnings level represents a durable step-up rather than a cyclical peak.
The next quarterly results are expected in December 2026. Gross margin, memory pricing and evidence that demand remains ahead of supply will be the central indicators for investors.
