- More than 75 percent of fiscal 2027 shipments are already committed, extending demand visibility for Micron.
- Agentic AI workloads are broadening memory demand across servers, enterprise systems and consumer applications.
- Capacity expansion and higher research spending remain necessary as memory supply stays tight.
Micron Technology gained longer-term demand visibility in its fiscal fourth-quarter earnings call, as management said more than 75 percent of planned fiscal 2027 shipments are already committed. A summary carried by The Globe and Mail said the company also sees tight DRAM and NAND markets extending through 2028.
Micron Technology stock traded at 789.20 euros on Lang & Schwarz at 17:12 CEST on Friday, October 30, 6.47 percent below the Xetra close of Thursday, October 29, at 843.80 euros.
Committed orders support the outlook
Management linked the stronger demand picture to expanding server shipments and agentic AI workloads that run across CPUs. Those applications require additional LP and DDR DRAM as well as solid-state storage, broadening memory consumption beyond accelerator-focused systems.
Micron expects high-bandwidth memory shipments to grow faster than conventional DRAM through 2028. The company also said calendar 2027 HBM pricing has risen significantly, which should narrow the profitability gap with traditional DRAM when the new pricing takes effect.
Investment raises the execution hurdle
The growth opportunity comes with higher spending. Micron plans to increase fiscal 2027 research and development by more than USD 1 billion excluding incentive compensation, while new clean-room capacity is intended to support output from late 2028 onward. Management expects start-up costs and double-digit sequential cost growth in both DRAM and NAND during the fiscal first quarter.
The combination of committed shipments, tighter supply and stronger HBM pricing improves visibility, but it also raises the standard for capacity execution. Investors must weigh the durability of AI-led demand against the memory cycle, construction costs and temporary pressure from new-facility ramp-ups.
