- Moderna returned to profit in the third quarter as revenue increased 29 percent year over year.
- Management raised its 2026 revenue-growth outlook to 15 percent to 25 percent.
- International COVID vaccine demand and government partnership deliveries supported the quarter.
Moderna returned to profit in the third quarter and raised its full-year revenue outlook on Friday, November 6, 2026. CNBC reported that stronger international COVID vaccine sales and deliveries under long-term government partnerships supported the result.
Profit returns as sales accelerate
Third-quarter revenue increased 29 percent year over year to 1.31 billion US dollars. Moderna reported net income of 162 million US dollars, compared with a net loss of 200 million US dollars in the year-earlier quarter. Diluted earnings were 0.38 US dollars per share, reversing the prior-year loss of 0.51 US dollars.
Revenue reached 780 million US dollars in the United States and 533 million US dollars in international markets. The geographic split keeps overseas demand central to the near-term earnings picture, particularly as the company works to broaden its vaccine portfolio beyond COVID products.
Higher guidance raises the bar
Moderna now expects total revenue to grow 15 percent to 25 percent in 2026, compared with its previous outlook for growth of up to 10 percent. The company also expects year-end cash and investments of 8.1 billion to 8.3 billion US dollars, above its earlier range of 4.7 billion to 5.2 billion US dollars.
Research and development expenses fell 27 percent year over year to 583 million US dollars. Management lowered its full-year research and development expense forecast to approximately 2.7 billion US dollars from approximately 2.9 billion US dollars, adding a cost-control element to the improved outlook.
Pipeline progress remains important
The quarterly figures strengthen Moderna's near-term financial position, while the longer-term investment case still depends on execution across its oncology and vaccine pipeline. Positive Phase 3 melanoma results with Merck and the US approval of the mFLUSIVA influenza vaccine add commercial milestones, but future revenue will depend on launches, regulatory progress and demand.
