Switch 2 Sets The Earnings Test
The upcoming release will provide the first complete half-year view of Switch 2 performance after the console's launch period. Nintendo sold 3.82 million Switch 2 consoles from April through June 2026, taking cumulative shipments to 23.68 million by June 30. The company has set a full-year hardware target of 16.5 million units through March 2027.
The first-quarter comparison was mixed. Net sales declined 9.5 percent year over year to 517.8 billion Japanese yen, while operating profit increased 150.5 percent to 142.5 billion Japanese yen. Profit rose 53.5 percent to 147.4 billion Japanese yen. Digital sales increased 90 percent to 132.7 billion Japanese yen, while a refund of United States tariffs of about 300 million US dollars also supported the reported result.
Hardware momentum will be measured against the launch-heavy comparison period. Switch 2 sales in April through June 2026 were below the 5.82 million consoles sold in the same quarter a year earlier, although Nintendo said sell-through was ahead of the original Switch at the comparable stage. The new report will show how July through September shipments developed before the holiday season.
Forecasts And Price Pressure
Nintendo's current full-year plan calls for net sales of 2.05 trillion Japanese yen, operating profit of 370 billion Japanese yen and profit of 310 billion Japanese yen. The company also expects 60 million Switch 2 games and an annual dividend of 162 yen per share. The release will indicate whether those targets remain unchanged.
The quarter included a higher price environment in several markets. Nintendo raised the United States price of Switch 2 by 50 US dollars to 499.99 US dollars on September 1, with increases in Canada and Europe on the same day. The effect on demand, revenue per console and the full-year outlook will therefore be central to the investor reading.
The reporting date also coincides with the release of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time on Switch 2. That title, along with the broader holiday lineup, gives investors a further reference point for the platform's software contribution after the September quarter.
