- Novo Nordisk raised its full-year outlook after strong third-quarter demand for the Wegovy pill.
- Pricing pressure and competition from Eli Lilly remain central risks for the obesity franchise.
- ObesityWeek presentations in Washington are the next disclosed product-data catalyst.
Novo Nordisk stock gained 0.87 percent over the week through Friday, November 6, as stronger Wegovy pill demand helped the drugmaker raise its 2026 outlook. The stock traded at 36.25 euros on Lang & Schwarz at 12:11 CET on Saturday, November 7, 0.95 percent above the Xetra close of Friday, November 6. Earnings reset the outlook
On Wednesday, November 4, Novo Nordisk lifted its full-year adjusted sales and operating-profit outlook to a range of a 2 percent decline to 2 percent growth at constant exchange rates. Reuters reported that the previous range was a decline of up to 6 percent, while third-quarter adjusted sales reached 79.20 billion Danish kroner and adjusted operating profit 31.72 billion Danish kroner.
Reuters said Wegovy pill sales reached 5.39 billion Danish kroner in the quarter, ahead of the 4.62 billion analyst consensus. The company also plans to launch the pill in more than 20 countries by mid-2027, earlier than its previous end-2027 target. The upgrade improves the near-term growth profile, but management still expects sales to decline in the United States.
Competition remains the main risk
The recovery is not yet complete. Reuters reported a 13 percent constant-exchange-rate decline in U.S. injectable Wegovy sales, although combined U.S. Wegovy sales increased 21 percent. Eli Lilly's competing obesity medicines continue to pressure Novo in the injectable market, making pill adoption and international expansion important for the investment case.
Pricing, reimbursement and the durability of demand will remain key issues for investors. Novo's management cautioned that one strong quarter does not establish a completed turnaround, keeping execution and market-share trends in focus.
Next catalyst is ObesityWeek
Novo Nordisk's U.S. investor release on October 29 said the company will present 26 abstracts at ObesityWeek in Washington, D.C., from November 14 to November 17. The program covers investigational CagriSema, real-world Wegovy treatment experience and semaglutide research in children. The presentations could provide additional evidence on the obesity pipeline, but CagriSema remains investigational and is not approved in the United States.
