Nucor stock: Q3 profit more than doubles as Q4 outlook holds
Published on 11/06/2026 at 16:30 | Editorial responsibility: Rafael Müller, Editor-in-Chief AD HOC NEWSResults and outlook remain in focus
- Nucor reported substantially higher third-quarter earnings, supported by stronger steel pricing and volumes.
- Management expects fourth-quarter earnings to be generally in line with or modestly higher than the third quarter.
- New capacity in West Virginia and at Berkeley advances the company's longer-term growth plan.
Nucor reported a sharp increase in third-quarter earnings on October 26, with stronger steel prices and volumes lifting results across its main operating segments. The company also kept its fourth-quarter earnings outlook broadly steady.
Nucor's investor release said net earnings attributable to stockholders reached 1.32 billion US dollars in the third quarter of 2026, compared with 607 million US dollars a year earlier. Diluted earnings per share rose to 5.80 US dollars from 2.63 US dollars, while net sales increased to 11.25 billion US dollars from 8.52 billion US dollars.
Pricing supports quarterly performance
The steel mills segment benefited from higher average selling prices and increased volumes. Steel products also delivered higher earnings on stronger volumes and realized pricing, while the raw materials segment weakened on lower pricing and shipments.
Nucor's EBITDA reached 2.28 billion US dollars in the quarter, compared with 1.27 billion US dollars a year earlier. The company also generated 2.66 billion US dollars of free cash flow in the first nine months of 2026 and returned about 1.36 billion US dollars to stockholders during that period.
Fourth-quarter view stays broadly firm
Management expects consolidated fourth-quarter earnings to be generally in line with or modestly higher than the third quarter. Higher realized pricing is expected to offset seasonally lower volumes and higher costs in the steel mills business. Steel products earnings are expected to remain stable, while raw materials earnings may decline slightly because of lower direct-reduced-iron pricing.
Growth projects are moving closer to production. Nucor reported the first heat at its West Virginia sheet mill in September and the start-up of a second galvanizing line at its Berkeley, South Carolina, facility. Those investments should expand capabilities, although start-up and operating costs remain relevant to near-term margins.
